Grandpa's Watch
Parallel Universe - track 10
music and lyrics: Tracey Roberts © 2007

I was having one of those days
When a feather could have knocked me down
Rehearsing that night with the girls
For a gig we had in our local town

My friend calmly asked “Do you have ghost here?”
I said … I didn’t know
“’Cause there’s a man standing up there smiling down at you
Every time you play the piano”

She described him in detail and I listened in awe
Because I knew that it was him
The room suddenly felt different
My heart was full but my body felt thin

She said “He feels very connected to you
And everything that you’re doing is fine
He wants you to know that he’s proud of you
He’s not staying – he’s just visiting this time”

Grandpa’s watch is old and worn and wise
When I hold it to my heart I feel the love in his eyes
Grandpa’s watch is old and gold and fine
When I hold it in my hand I see it ticking in time, ticking in time...

I saw my friend again last night
We drank some wine and had a few laughs
I asked her "Do we have a ghost here?"
She said “No, he’s gone, he just wanted to help you get through some stuff”

Well I smiled and I said “That’s OK,
'Cause I don’t need him anymore for a while”
But to know he's there if I do
Is enough for me for the rest of my life

Grandpa’s watch is old and worn and wise
When I hold it to my heart I feel the love in his eyes
Grandpa’s watch is old and gold and fine
When I hold it in my hand I see it ticking in time
I hold it in my hand, I see it ticking in time, ticking in time,
ticking in time, ticking in time, ticking in time, ticking in time
ticking in time, ticking in time, ticking in time, ticking in time...
