Rainbows after rain
Parallel Universe - track 9
music and lyrics: Tracey Roberts © 2006

In the days before I mothered a child everything was all about me
My life never felt threatened at all - it was pretty ideal, oh oh oh
Gone are the days of my hedonistic youth and not a worry in the world
I watched in horror as the towers came down and Jesus – it was real – oh oh oh
I am stunned by the depths of darkness in this world
Yet there’s always the sun shining for this little girl

I believe in rainbows after rain
Shine on rainbows after rain

I watch miscarriages of justice occur and the heatwaves and hurricanes
And it’s going to take a tidal wave of fear to make it right, oh oh oh
So as experience and awareness creep in, they bring their friend, responsibility
And I realize that we have to act now before we run out of time, oh oh oh
There must be a path between denial and defeat
And I still live in hope that we will wake up from our sleep

I believe in rainbows after rain
Shine on rainbows after rain

A friend once told me: “You’re too happy, you need some darkness in your life”
I disagree, I’ve had and seen enough darkness to last me several lifetimes
I simply choose not to harbour evil for too long
So if I can be inspired by the music and the power of a song
Then I can hope there’s a future for our daughters and our sons

I believe in rainbows after rain
Shine on rainbows after rain...shine on...
I believe in rainbows...for our daughters and our sons...shine on...
